SKATEBOARDING IN LATE 80′S

Divers 1 Commentaire

I Started Skateboarding in 1988 in Marseille (France). It was one of the best year of my life. Our life changed when we (Jean-Louis, Manu, Matthias and me) watched our first skateboard movie : Public Domain, the Powell & Peralta skateboard video. And then, there was the Santa Cruz, H Street, Blind, World industries Vidéos and more… We tried to do every tricks as soon as Public Domain did end. Skateboard became a way of life. Punk rock, asphalt, building spots because there was none at the time, going to the city hall asking for a skatepark, organizing shitty contest in shitty spots. Trying to find money to get new boards, wheels, shoes (Thanks mom & dad). Life was good. Skateboarding was just about having fun with your friends. Everybody was sure to become a Pro ! So, if you are in your 30′s, here is some souvenirs for you :

Saiz, Barbee, Sanderson, Thomas in Public Domain (Powell & Peralta) :

Natas Kaupas in Wheels of fire (Santa Cruz) :

Matt Hensley in Shackle me not (H Street) :

Ron Allen in Hokus Pokus (H Street) :

Sal Barbier in Hokus Pokus (H Street) :

Jason Lee before he became EARL in Video Days (Blind) :

Frankie Hill in Ban This (Powell & Peralta) :

Mike Vallely in Rubbish Heap (World industries) :

There is so many of them…
When I watch these videos, I want to go out and Skateboard right away !!!

I love old videos. Even though it’s great that the level in skateboarding improved so much i think old videos were making the audience feel much closer to the rider than they are now. I love it cheers!!!
